CHALLENGE

Orange County is home to some of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the entire country. The OC Go (formerly Measure M) Freeway Environmental Mitigation Program allocates funds to acquire and restore these natural habitats in exchange for approval of freeway improvement projects. Acquired properties are purchased and permanently preserved as open space, with limited public access. In collaboration with Truth & Advertising, I was tasked with designing sub-brand Preserving Our Legacy and microsite that invites people to experience the preserved OC Go lands with a guided tour.

APPROACH

We brought sub-brand Preserving Our Legacy to life with a spirited and approachable identity that showcases photos of the beautiful preserved lands, wildlife and plant life.

The core element is the microsite, which informs the public about OC Go's ongoing projects and encourages people to enjoy the preserves on guided tours every month. We designed a simple single page microsite that includes fact sheets for each property, live social media feeds with the latest updates, and an intuitive calendar interface to sign up for a free hike or equestrian ride.

RESULT

In 2017, a new conservation plan was finalized, and additional Resource Management Plans are being developed for each acquired preserve. Meanwhile, the public participation rates for the guided hikes and equestrian rides have been consistently increasing from month to month.
